GRACIOUSLY CONSTRICTED focuses on the process of girls forcefully being pushed into womanhood at an early age. I pulled inspiration from my own upbringing, being born into a turkish-german family and often being confronted with conservative-muslim rules and regulations for a woman's outer appearance. Trough my research I was confronted with the contradiction of expec- ted modesty yet an extreme sexualisation of oneself. In my creative process I strived to capture the sexualization and objectification of girls in today‘s society, brought up and trained to fit the male gaze. Feelings of shame and exhaution created strong inspiration for my work. The demand of girls to look effortlessly gracious.
